The rtp experience

and my approach to photography

Using both film and digital mediums, I truly believe in capturing the day as it unfolds. Your love story is unique and should be captured as just that; yours. While I approach every wedding with the same knowledge and shooting style I customize each experience depending on the parts of the day that are most important to you. Are the bride and groom portraits the most important to you? Perfect! Then lets add a little more time during romantics. Are having photos of all of your guests both posed and candid the most important to you? Great! I will make sure that my second shooter and myself focus on capturing those photos more than the details. I enjoy working closely with my brides and their wedding planners to perfect their timeline in order to fit their specific needs.

Your wedding day is a big deal and I do not take that lightly. Helping you look and feel your best on your big day is of utmost importance to me. I prioritize comfort, compassion, and a stress-free and fun experience at your wedding. Getting to know each other so we can be comfortable and relaxed on your wedding day help to create authentic and joyful images is imperative to having a great experience. To accomplish this, I send out a questionnaire about a month prior to your wedding day. While it might feel like you already have a billion things to do (in which, you do!), I promise that all of the information you give me such as your hobbies, love story, vendor list, family grouping information, and photo requests will make all the difference in how I approach your day. My ultimate goal is to not only capture all of the people and details of the wedding day to tell your story, but to transport you back to how you felt that day for years to come. Reliving your happiness through your photos is the greatest gift I can give to my couples. I cannot wait to hear your story, work together as a team, and make new friends in each other along the way!

Q: What sets you apart from other photographers?

A: Not only do I capture stunning portraits and detail shots, but also focus on capturing your guests and the mood of the wedding to tell the complete story of the day. With many other photographers, they seem to sacrifice one or the other; whereas fine art photographers are detail-focused, and moody/documentary style photographers are candid and emotion focused. I don't see why there has to be one or the other, and my goal is to capture your day in a well-rounded and complete manner from start to finish with all aspects included. The details, portraits, family photos, candids, and emotion-provoking photos are ALL important to me and have the same level of priority.  In addition, my relationship with my couples is extremely valuable to me and I capture your wedding day with the same care as if I were capturing my best friends or a family members wedding. You can rest easy knowing that your photos are in the best hands possible!

Q: How would you describe your photography style?

A: My style is natural, classic, romantic, and fun. As I stated above, I don't like to consider myself a particular style so I believe I am a mix between fine art + editorial and documentary. I like to capture a mix between posed photos and candid, natural emotion and reactions as well. I love a good under-the-veil shot or an emotional embrace, but I also love the shots of the groomsmen getting down on the dance floor at the reception. My editing style is bright and airy, but not too bright or washed out. I work hard to match my digital images to my film scans.

Q: What is a hybrid photographer?

A: A hybrid photographer is a person who uses both film and digital mediums to capture photos. I truly believe there is a time and place for each. Digital is quick and reliable while film consistently captures light and color in a way that digital does not. Film captures those creamy skin tones, soft colors, and gives an image a "painting" like appearance. I work hard to match all of my digital images to my film images to maintain consistency throughout your gallery. Once the sun goes down, I use two off-camera and one on camera flash during the reception to keep your images looking light and bright even when its dark.

Q: How many photos will I receive and when will I get them?

I usually deliver around 85-120 photos per hour via an online downloadable gallery. With my 8 hour packages, you will receive at least 700 images, but usually wind up with 1000-1200. I also deliver all getting ready photos in black and white because I love how timeless those look. You will receive a sneak peek gallery of approximately 25-50 images within 1 week of your wedding, and the rest are delivered within 8-10 weeks of the wedding day.

Q: What is your system for backing up my photos?

I make sure to capture all digital images in addition to the film in case something happens to the film rolls in the mail on the way to the lab to be developed. My digital cameras both have two memory card slots, so the photos are recorded on two cards in case one should fail. When I get home from your wedding I then transfer your images to all three of my external hard drives, one of which I keep in a fireproof box outside of my house in case of a fire. You can rest assured that I will not lose your precious memories and images!

Q: Are you licensed and do you have liability insurance?

A: Yes and yes! I have 2 million in liability insurance to be exact! I'd be happy to provide a copy of insurance listing your venue as additionally insured if they require it.

Q: Can I have my unedited RAW images?

A: I believe in delivering the absolute best photos to my clients. When you hire Rebecca Theresa, you are hiring my artistic vision, editing, and post-processing style as well. I don't have a cap on how many photos you receive and you will receive them all with the exception of duplicates, test shots, blinking photos, blurred images, or photos that are unflattering such as people talking or walking in front of me. Also, contrary to popular belief, RAW photos are not just unedited photos. They are a special large file type with in-depth information embedded into the file. You have to have professional editing software in order to even open the photo. I don't hold back anything from my clients and deliver as many photos as needed to tell the complete story of your day!

Q: How do you prepare for our wedding day?

A: The first step after booking is scheduling your engagement session if you choose to have one. About 4 weeks prior to your wedding day I send you a questionnaire where you can give me all of the information on your wedding day. I want to know everything from the colors to the family shot list, photo requests, and vendor list, as well as addresses, surprises, names of important guests and surprises just to name a few. I also work closely with your wedding coordinator if you have one to create the most time efficient day according to the ceremony and sunset timing. I print all of this information out and bring it with my on the big day so I make sure to not miss anything.

Q: How long have you done wedding photography? How many weddings do you shoot per year?

A: I have been shooting weddings for 8 years full time and shoot approximately 16-20 weddings per year

Q: How do engagement sessions work? Do I need engagement photos?

A: I firmly believe that taking the best photos on your wedding day means getting in a little "practice" BEFORE the biggest day of your life. Building a relationship with each other is so important to establish before the wedding day. Most couples have never been in front of the camera before, and it's important to find out how you are in front of the camera and if there are poses or angles that you find out you don't like prior to the wedding day. I like to capture a mix of posed photos as well as candids that show emotion and movement, and work on showing your personalities through your photos. Once you book, I help you choose a location based off of your preferences (i.e. beach over rustic setting), along with wardrobe choices. You receive approximately 100-125 photos from your engagement session 3-4 weeks after they are taken.

Q: Who is your second shooter and why do I need one?

A: My second shooters are all fully capable with their own equipment and businesses. I work closely with them by providing them a full second shooter guide explaining exactly how I like them to capture images for me. I generally use the same few second shooters throughout the year and they will likely already know what I want. I include a second shooter in all of my packages which is very important to me. Weddings in the present day have so many people and details to capture and being that I am only one person and cannot be two places at once, that is where they come in. They will be with the groom while he is getting ready and also be capturing quests during cocktail hour and reception decor while I am capturing family photos and romantics during cocktail hour. I pride myself and brand on capturing the full story of your day including all details and as many guest photos as possible, and having a second shooter is imperative to be able to accomplish this.
